Aftercare
Tattoo aftercare is essential for ensuring your new ink heals properly and looks vibrant for years to come. Proper care helps prevent infection, reduces the risk of fading, and promotes faster healing. Following aftercare instructions can make a significant difference the overall appearance of your tattoo. Remember, investing time in aftercare is investing in the longevity of your artwork.

The First Day
- Leave the bandage on for 2-6 hours
After the tattoo is completed, your artist will apply a bandage or wrap to protect it from bacteria. Leave it on for the time your artist recommends (usually between 2 to 6 hours). Don’t leave it on for more than 12 hours, as this can trap moisture and lead to infections.

- Wash your hands before touching the tattoo
Always wash your hands with antibacterial soap and warm water before handling your tattoo to prevent introducing bacteria to the healing area.

- Gently wash the tattoo
Once the bandage is removed, gently wash the tattoo with lukewarm water and a mild, fragrance-free soap. Use your fingers (not a cloth or sponge) to softly clean off any blood, ink, or plasma. Avoid scrubbing. Pat dry with a clean paper towel or let it air dry.

- Apply a thin layer of ointment
Once the tattoo is dry, apply a thin layer of aftercare ointment (such as Aquaphor, A+D Ointment, or a product recommended by your artist). Avoid petroleum jelly or any scented lotions. The layer should be light, not greasy.
Healing Process
- Repeat washing and moisturising
Wash the tattoo 2-3 times a day for the first few days (usually 3-4) and apply a thin layer of moisturiser after each cleaning. Continue moisturising as needed until the tattoo is fully healed (this can take 2-4 weeks).

- Avoid soaking the tattoo
Do not submerge your tattoo in water (baths, pools, hot tubs, or oceans) for at least 2-3 weeks. Showering is fine, but avoid letting strong streams of water hit the tattoo directly.

- Avoid sun exposure
Keep your tattoo out of direct sunlight for the first few weeks. The UV rays can cause the ink to fade and may damage the healing skin. Once fully healed, always apply sunscreen (SPF 30 or higher) to your tattoo when exposed to the sun.

- Don’t scratch or pick at scabs
It’s normal for your tattoo to scab and peel. However, avoid picking at scabs or scratching the area, as this can pull out ink and delay healing.

- Wear loose-fitting clothes
Wear loose, breathable clothing over the tattoo to avoid rubbing or irritation. Tight clothing can stick to the healing skin and affect the tattoo’s appearance.

- Monitor for signs of infection
If you notice excessive redness, swelling, heat, or pus, or if the tattoo is painful after several days, you may have an infection. Contact your tattoo artist or a healthcare professional immediately.

Long Term Care
Keep moisturising: Even after healing, keep your tattoo moisturised to maintain its vibrancy.

Sunscreen: Always protect your tattoo with sunscreen to prevent fading.

Following these steps will ensure your tattoo heals properly and looks its best for years to come!
